Over 50% of companies Lost Data in 2011 – Why?

When you’ve been doing what I’m doing for as long as I have, especially here at TriAxis, you learn that good information is good information and is worth sharing. Below is the text of an email I received this morning that I wanted to share:

Every year Cibecs sponsors the Business Data Loss Survey, uncovering what the challenges are for IT around endpoint data protection and data management. The survey covered over 250 companies globally, and revealed why over half of companies aren’t managing to effectively secure their confidential data.

(You can download the full Survey Results White Paper here registration required: 2011 Data Loss Survey )

A few of The Survey Results

  • 34% of IT Manager’s listed ‘User’s not following policy’ as the biggest IT data protection challenge.
  • 36% of companies are still using a company policy instructing user’s to copy their files to a server.
  • 45% of IT manager’s find their data protection strategy only ’moderately effective’
  • The majority of companies experience 30% or higher average annual data growth.

We discussed these results with industry thought leaders, and put together an 8 point list of essential Business IT Data Protection requirements and considerations that we thought you might find useful.
